Your jewelry is an investment. It should be treated with care to insure it will last for years to come. Here are some tips on how to properly treat your jewelry, at home. If you are unsure about how properly care for your piece, come in anytime for instruction.
1- Treat your jewelry gently; keep it clean; wear it with care; store it properly.
2- Do not spray harsh perfumes or hair products while wearing your jewelry- especially pearls.
3- Do not wear your jewelry while playing sports, gardening, exercising, or doing any heavy cleaning.
4- Do not swim in a chlorinated pool, or use any bleach products. It is very bad for the metal and most gemstones.
5- No piece of jewelry is meant to be worn 24/7. Jewelry is not indestructible. Use your best judgment when wearing your jewelry to protect it from damage.
6- If you notice any damage has been done to the piece, bring it in right away to avoid further damage. Usually it is an easy fix, if addressed right away.
7- We suggest that you bring in your jewelry, at least twice a year, for professional cleaning and inspection. At Gloria’s, we offer this service free of charge.

At home, you can use warm water, mixed with a light dish detergent. Soak your piece in the soapy water. Brush the top and especially underneath with a soft bristled toothbrush. After you have gently scrubbed the piece, rinse it off with warm water.
This method will work on most diamond and gemstone Jewelry.
This method does not apply to emeralds, pearls, tanzanite, opals, or any other "soft" gemstone. If you are unsure, do not clean it, just bring it into the store for instruction.
Pearls, because they are soft by nature, require special care.
1- Store them in a safe place, wrapped in a soft cloth. Do not store them in plastic. 2- After wearing your pearls, wipe them with a soft cloth to remove any makeup, hair product, dust etc.
3- To keep their finish, they should not be worn with other pieces that could damage the nacre.
4- Do not put on hairspray or perfume while wearing pearls. Do it before, and make sure it is fully dry before putting on your pearls.
5- If your pearls are starting to wiggle, it is time to bring them in to be restrung.
6- To clean your pearls, use a very mild detergent with warm water. Do not soak them, do a light rinse. Allow the pearls to dry for a full 24 hours before wearing them again.
With proper care, cleaning and professional inspections, your pieces will stand the test of time.
